When you improve the motor performance the OEM clutch and even other brands of slipper clutches can become insufficient to handle the power or they may not be adjustable enough. Often the choice of design is simply to keep costs down. To avoid slipping, especially on the track, it becomes important to use a higher specification slipper clutch for "non standard" engines where hp and torque has been increased. STM gives the ability to easily tune the clutch by using heavier primary springs in 10 kg increments to get the perfect set up for the motor tune. Additionally, secondary spring changes are available to get the right slipping characteristics for the rider and track conditions.
